Miniature Schnauzer Healthy Treat Recipes

Schnauzer Max, Rosabella, Thomas and Annabella's Healthy Liver Bread Recipe
Picture
The Schnauzer Friends Schroyal Family,  Max, Rosabella, Thomas and Annabella's favourite treat in all the world is Liver Bread.  I like it because I know exactly what is in it, and it has no preservatives. It is really quick and easy to make. I store any extra in my freezer and use as and when required. It is great for treats, for training, as a snack and to crumble on top of their food.  You can also use the same recipe to make a birthday cake or muffins.

Ingredients

Puree in Blender:
  • 500g raw liver (Any good ox/chicken liver. I find that the ox liver has a better result.  A tip is to ask the butcher to already chop it up for you)
  • 3 eggs.

Dry ingredients:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 ½ cups whole-wheat flour
  • 1 tea spoon bicarbonate/baking soda
  • You can substitute some of the flour with potato or rice flour if you don't want too much wheat.  You can also use all flour if you prefer.

Optional Additions:
  • Green onion seasoning or chicken spice etc. for flavour.
  • Grated raw baby marrow, broccoli and/or cooked mashed sweet potato, butternut or pumpkin. These really give the Liver Bread a lovely consistency and makes it even more healthy.

Method
  • In a large bowl, add the blended wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until mixed.
  • Then add the vegetables/spices and stir into the mixture.
  • Place mixture in a greased flat baking tray.
  • Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for about 12 minutes. (Check cooked through)
  • Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.
  • I freeze what I don't need and take out and defrost when required.

Recipe Variations

To make doggy muffins or a cake: Place mixture in a greased muffin or cake tin. Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for about 20/25 minutes (check cooked through). Decorate with biltong, biltong powder, low fat smooth cream cheese or peanut butter.  You can even stick doggy biscuits on top and add a candle for birthday celebrations!

SERVE IT TO YOUR PRECIOUS SCHNAUZERS AND WATCH THEM SCHSMILE!

THROW A BIRTHDAY SCHPARTY FOR YOUR PRECIOUS POOCHES AND WATCH THEM SMILE!

Schnauzer Penny's Sweet Potato Chews

Penny's mom Ina Du Plooy adopted one of our Roodewal puppy farm rescues called Penny. Ina says "My doggies love it. They will stick their noses in the oven to get to it and the awesome part is that it is entirely natural with no additives or preservatives."

Ingredients
  • Sweet Potato
  • Sharp Knife/Madolin
  • Baking Sheet

Method
  • Preheat oven to 120 degrees Celcius.
  • Wash Sweet Potaoes so that all the dirt is removed.
  • Cut down the middle lengthwise.
  • Then cut long lengthwise slices about 1cm thick.
  • Place a single layer on a baking sheet sprayed with Spray & Cook.
  • Bake for approximately 3 hours.
  • You can bake the slices until they are crunchy but I prefer them a bit chewy.
  • Leave in oven until completely cooled down.
  • Store in an airtight container.

ENJOY !!!  (maybe experiment with other vegetables like butternut)
