SCHNAUZER LILLY's FOSTER BLOG

Roodewal Kennels was  exposed as a large miniature schnauzer puppy farm empire.  With a kingpin at the top doing the marketing with many other breeders contracted to supply miniature schnauzer puppies into the network.  It has been shut down.  Between Schnauzer Friends South Africa and the SPCA's  320 breeding ex Roodewal Kennel breeding stock schnauzers were rescued, sterilized, medically treated and rehomed into loving homes. These dogs were kept in horrific conditions outside with little human contact, while locked into the breeding cycle, without a voice of their own.  Many were emotionally broken and need extensive rehabilitation.  They now have a chance to be loved pets!

HOW DO YOU MEND A BROKEN SOUL?

Schnauzer  mom Jacqui Chetty is part of the Schnauzer Friends Rescue team. She assisted at our puppy farm rescue project second  adoption day on the 16th May 2015  and fell in love with a broken soul called Twit st Geverney number #28.

Twit st Geverney was born on October 2009 and has been a puppy farm breeding dog her whole life.  She lived outside in a pen, in the rain and cold with little human companionship. Her soul purpose was to make puppies for the puppy farmer.

Jacqui was in charge of admin and Twit st Geverney sat on her lap the whole morning and soaked up the safety of a warm lap. She was scared and just shut down emotionally.

Jacqui gave her a new nickname of Lilly and declared that she was going to take Lilly home to foster until she was emotionally strong enough to go to a forever home!

She fostered her for a month and a half and then she went to her new forever mommy Rosie Hardcastle.....

This blog will follow the progress of Lilly........

Thanks you to these special people like Jacqui and Rosie (who all have professional full time day jobs) who give up their time to make a difference in rescue Schnauzer's lives!

Schnauzer Friends Rescue gives a voice to the voiceless.

Overview from Jacqui

22 May  Overview - Fostering Lilly - Lilly continues to heal emotionally. What may seem like little steps are huge ones for her. The good thing is that she looks happy!!! She loves being around my Schnauzers and Griffin continues to "look after her". Lilly looks to him for comfort and will happily play around him. She doesn't know how to play, but Griffin try's really hard to show her!! The good news is that thanks to a wonderful article regarding the definition of a puppy mill (all breeders should read this) as well as extensive research done regarding dogs from puppy mills, I am armed to the brim with information. (Download from our fostering or adopting pages).

Top on the list when dealing with an adult dog from a puppy mill (puppies have other issues) is PATIENCE and allowing the dog to heal / grow at it's own pace. Another useful tip is NOT showering the dog with too much affection / attention. Humans have been the source of abuse. Something else to remember is routine/routine/routine AND no walks out of home!! Keep them in a safe environment until healing has occurred. When will they be healed? No one knows! One day you will notice that they are "normal" or possibly never "normal" but as normal as they are able to be!!! For now Lilly has improved 1000% as she does not cower in the flowerbeds, she comes to me a licks my hand (but runs away) and for the first time this morning showed interest in me preparing the dogs breakfast!! Lilly continues to be more than a survivor, she is a true ambassador for other less fortunate Schnauzers that still form part of the puppy mill industry. She will continue to be the voice of the voiceless!!!

If anyone who like to make a donation to the Lilly against puppy mill's fund to assist with this wonderful project, please go to the Schnauzer Friends - South Africa facebook / website and donate into the account stipulated there. Let's see how much money we can raise for other Lilly's!!!! The smallest bit helps.
